What the figures on this site mean, what nothing on it is, and the fact that the nursery described here does not exist.

  • Demonstration site
  • Not advice of any kind
  • The law described here is real

This is a demonstration site for a fictional nursery

Woodside Daycare, LLC does not exist. The nursery, its six educators, their histories, its rates and its premises are all invented, and this website was built as a showcase of what can be designed, provisioned, deployed and hosted through MaiaHost.

Every telephone number on the site is the placeholder 000-000-0000. The permit number is a placeholder for the same reason and it is a more deliberate one: a New York City child care permit is a real, checkable public record attached to a real address and a real named permit-holder, and inventing a plausible one would attach a fiction to somebody else's licence.

For the same reason no accreditation is claimed anywhere on this site, and no individual credential is invented for any member of staff. Programme accreditation and teaching certificates are held by real, listed people and settings on public registers.

No enquiry sent through this site reaches an early-years educator. No telephone number here reaches anybody. No child is enrolled and no place can be offered. The contact form is genuinely running, which means it genuinely delivers what you type — so please do not send information about a real child.

Nothing on this site is advice

The pages here describe childcare, New York City regulation and how early-years settings work in general. None of it is advice about your child or your family. Nothing on this site assesses, screens or diagnoses anything, and the people who wrote it are not clinicians.

Where a page describes something that would make us raise a concern with a family — the developmental observation page especially — that is included because knowing the referral routes exist is useful, and not because reading a website is a substitute for talking to a physician or to Early Intervention.

The rates are invented; the arithmetic behind them is not

Every rate on this site belongs to a fictional nursery. They were set to sit inside the genuine published range for centre-based care in Queens rather than at random, and the reasoning for the differences between rooms — that the whole spread is the staff-to-child ratio — is real. What a real family pays anywhere else depends on that setting.

The availability described for hourly and drop-in places is likewise a description of how the constraint works rather than an offer. No session can be booked.

The legal and regulatory statements are real

This is worth saying because everything else on the page is not. The rules described on this site are genuine: Article 47 of the New York City Health Code, including the permit requirement at section 47.03, the capacity limit at 47.05 and the ratios and supervision standard at 47.23; the OCFS regulations at 18 NYCRR 418-1 that apply outside the five boroughs; New York's day care immunisation requirements and the 2019 repeal of the non-medical exemption; the background-check requirements including the Statewide Central Register and the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List; the eligibility and application dates for 3-K and Pre-K for All; the Child Care Assistance Programme income ceiling and the ACS voucher pause; and the CACFP eligibility rule for for-profit centres.

They are described as accurately as we can manage and they are not legal advice either. Rules change, and the 3-K dates in particular move every year. If a decision turns on one of them, check it against the source rather than against a demonstration website — and if we have let a page go stale, saying so would be a kindness.

The photographs

Every image on this site was generated rather than photographed, and not one of them contains a child. That is a deliberate decision with its own page, and it means no real person appears anywhere on this site in any capacity.

Using this site

You may read it, print it and link to it. The design, the copy and the generated imagery belong to the people who built it. Do not use the contact form to send unsolicited email to other people — it is rate-limited and logged specifically to make that unrewarding.

Liability

The site is provided as it is. Because the business it describes does not exist, no service is being offered through it and no relationship of any kind — contractual or otherwise — is created by using it.

Tuesday and Thursday mornings, while the children are here

Come and see the room

A tour here happens during a session, in the room your child would actually be in, at the time of day they would be in it. You meet the person who leads that room rather than only the director, and you see the noise and the mess that are genuinely there. It takes an hour. If your child is three or four we will ask whether you have applied for free 3-K or Pre-K for All before we quote you a rate, because a good many families should not be paying us at all.
