What the building actually contains
The rooms
Five rooms, an enclosed rear yard, a kitchen on the premises and a separate quiet room. There is no swimming pool, no minibus and no sick bay, and none of those appears anywhere on this site except as something we do not have.
What is here
- Five rooms, each permitted for one age band rather than shared between two
- A ground-floor entrance from 61st Street with no step and a single controlled door
- An enclosed rear yard of just under two thousand square feet, shaded from noon
- A kitchen on the premises, so lunch is cooked in the building rather than delivered
- Child-height washrooms opening directly off the toddler and twos rooms
- A separate quiet room with acoustic lining, for children who need less noise
- Cots stored one per child and washed on a posted rota, never shared between children
- A staff changing area kept out of the children's rooms entirely
That list is exhaustive rather than illustrative. A facility named on this site is a facility in this building, and the reason for saying so is that a room described on a website and missing on the day is how a family ends up having taken a morning off to be disappointed.
Why there is not a child in any of these photographs
Because the children in nursery marketing are somebody’s real children, consented to by a parent signing eleven other things at enrolment and never asked themselves — and because generating photorealistic images of children who do not exist, at volume, to sell a service is not a better answer. The rooms, the light, the materials and the food are what you are actually buying, and they photograph honestly. The full argument is on its own page.
There are no children in any photograph on this site. There is not a single child in any photograph on this website. Every image here shows our rooms, our materials, our food or our educators, and that is a decision rather than a gap in the budget. Marketing photographs of children are somebody else's children, used to sell a place to you; and a daily app photograph of a smiling child tells you about one second of a nine-hour day and nothing about the other thirty-two thousand. What we send home instead is a written note about sleep, food, mood and what actually happened, from the person who was in the room.
Things we do not do, including one we are not permitted to. We do not offer night care, and could not — it requires its own separate Health Code permit which we do not hold. We do not take sick children, we do not collect from schools, we do not run a minibus, we do not employ a speech therapist or an occupational therapist, we do not tutor, and we do not offer a premium curriculum tier because there is only one curriculum here. Where you need one of those, we will tell you what it is actually called and where in this borough to look for it.
Tuesday and Thursday mornings, while the children are here
Come and see the room
A tour here happens during a session, in the room your child would actually be in, at the time of day they would be in it. You meet the person who leads that room rather than only the director, and you see the noise and the mess that are genuinely there. It takes an hour. If your child is three or four we will ask whether you have applied for free 3-K or Pre-K for All before we quote you a rate, because a good many families should not be paying us at all.
